摘要：This essay offers a methodological proposal. Though the are a of colonial studies constitutes the essay's immediate context, its intention is to make evident its relevance to other areas of studies. The essay's conceptual frame corresponds to an age-old historiographical issue: the question of accounting and understanding those processes by which societies change. This issue is more complex and urgent when we consider those moments of intense, sudden and violent change, that is to say, moments of social de-structuring, traumatic suffering, and symbolic fracture. To attempt an understanding of such processes requires we open up to a risky and daring, but necessary and suggestive interdisciplinary dialogue.
