标题：Propiedad molusquicida de Euphorbia laurifolia A. Juss (Euphorbiaceae) contra Biomphalaria glabrata Say hospedador intermediario de Schistosoma mansoni
摘要：In Latin America snails of Biomphalaria glabrata (Planorbidae) are intermediate hosts of the parasite Schistosoma mansoni, the causative agent of schistosomiasis, which is a parasitic disease that affects millions of people in the world. This study evaluates the role of the specie Euphorbia laurifolia A. Juss (Euphorbiaceae) against B. glabrata. The molluscicidal activity was evaluated in accordance with the parameters suggested by the World Health Organization. Snails of B. glabrata used in this assay were reared in the laboratory. Different bioassays were performed using crude methanolic extract, n-hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract and methanol extract from the aerial parts of E. laurifolia at different concentrations. The results showed that all studied extracts of this specie have potent lethal activity against B. glabrata snails, and the highest molluscicidal potency was recorded for ethyl acetate extract, with LD50 of 5.57 ppm.
