摘要:Thin spinning disk such as saw blades are limited in their rotation speed by their critical speed. The critical speed can be lowered by heating along the periphery of the disk. To counter this phenomenon, the use of shape memory alloys is investigated as a method to stiffen the disk when heated. The disk is modeled using the finite element analysis. The design results in a thin disk that can operate at higher temperatures and speeds.
