摘要:The interest of people in keeping wild animals as pets stimulates the predatory trade of the wild fauna. In the present study, the register of reptiles received by Centro de Conservação e Manejo de Répteis e Anfíbios (RAN), from August 2002 to December 2005, was analyzed to identify the causes of relinquishment, number of species and physical integrity and health of the animals. The data were separated according to zoological groups and described in tables and graphics. The main reason for relinquishment alleged by the owners was the lack of interest in the animals. From the 136 animals reported, 70% were chelonians, 26% Squamata, and 4% crocodilians. Among the chelonians, the family Testudinidae was the most representative (67%). Among the 35 specimens of Squamata, 42% belonged to the family Viperidae, 15% to Colubridae, 32% to Boidae, and 11% to Iguanidae. The crocodilians were the least expressive, registering only five specimens of three species. Most animals were in good health. It is very important that the governmental authorities in charge develop educational projects to enlighten society about this issue and to control and repress the illegal trade of wild animals.
