摘要:The abstention from voting in Romania has been increasing after 1990 and becomes almost a habit nowadays. The elections for the European Parliament in 2007 marked the highest level of all the post communist elections in Romania, with a percentage of 70.5% of the electorate being absent from the voting process. The low participation rate could have profound causes, the most plausible one being the disappointment of the electorate regarding the political class in Romania. On a territorial level a quite obvious cleavage is noticed between the urban and the rural as well as between the east and the west of the country. One of the solutions for getting rid of this democratic lethargy would be the introduction of the uninominal vote, which has been already discussed and approved.
