摘要:This empirical study explores the current status and perception regarding the usage of a social media to support face-to-face education in Bangladesh. It is also an endeavor to identify the key issues hindering the progress of ICT enabled learning platforms in Bangladesh. Methodologically, this study has incorporated views from different stakeholders at tertiary-level education in Bangladesh. Primary data used in this study was collected through a close-ended structured questionnaire survey conducted on randomly selected 365 respondents. Qualitative data were also collected through observation and semi-structured interviews. The findings illustrate the bright prospect of social media usage at tertiary level as learners and educators share positive outlook towards using such tools in advancing participatory learning. The critical infrastructural and systemic issues responsible for the under-utilization of social media are limited accessibility to electronic devices, the preconceived bias towards of traditional learning methods, fear of adopting technology in education, shyness of learners, poor orientation, non-availability of live discussion in existing platform, availability of alternative popular social networks etc. A more user friendly platform is required to enable participation in true sense to harness the opportunities of social media. This study could be used as a yardstick for further work to unlock the underutilized potential of social media usage in enhancing participatory education in Bangladesh.
