摘要：As part of a research programme initiated in 1996 the present study examined the association between personal happiness (as operationalised by the Oxford Happiness Inventory) and religious affect (as operationalised by the Francis Scale of Attitude toward Christianity) among 3,848 sixth-form students (16, 17, 18, and 19 years of age) attending schools within the Republic of Ireland. After controlling for individual differences in personality (as operationalised by the short-form Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised), the data demonstrated a small statistically significant correlation between religious affect and personal happiness. This finding is consistent with eight earlier studies that had employed the same two instruments. The case is argued for the importance of replication studies (employing the same instruments among different populations) within empirical approaches to the psychology of religion.
