摘要:The occupational stress can negatively affect the careers. In the medical career, professionals work in a complex context of modernization health, decline of liberal practice and employment. We investigated occupational stress related to medical practice in Emergency Care Units (PSUs), analyzing the pressure factors at work and career commitment. The research, qualitative and quantitative, collected data with semistructured interview and with questionnaire of occupational work, by Cooper, Sloan and Williams (1988), and scale of career commitment elaborated by Carson and Bedeian (1994) and validated in Brazil by Rowe, Bastos and Pinho (2011). The results reveal physicians committed to careers in relation to identity and resilience in planning career. Medical work envolves pressure resulting from the relationship with vulnerable patients, their work context and from personal and family life. Doctors are characterized as competitive, impatient and internal locus of control, predicting the most likely to stress, with high pressure at work.
