摘要:The objective of this study was to identify whether Brazil is moving toward the "required university", updated and synchronized with society, as defined by Darcy Ribeiro. The author argued that distance education would be a pillar of this inclusive University. Based on bibliometric studies and using the EnANPAD database, Brazilian management journal classified as A, B1 and B2 by CAPES, for the period 1997-2011, we identified 83 articles that make reference to the term distance education. Using content analysis was identified themes of interest of Brazilian researchers in the area of business administration. Technological issues and the effectiveness of corporate training conducted at a distance predominate in early papers. Then, researchers are studying the actors of the process (teacher, tutor and student) and their relationship. Finally, they focused on issues related to quality of material used in distance learning and assessment. Business Administration courses offered in distance education proved to be a way which facilitated the inclusion of more people in higher education, working as a complement to face-to-face education. The study shows that distance education is in line with the aspirations of Darcy Ribeiro in search of democratization of higher education with quality for more people.
