摘要：In this paper, we aimed discuss the social representations of waiters' about their profession. We aimed to describe the representations of those subjects about their profession and the work’s peculiarities, as well as think the work relations through these representations. For this, first, we highlighted the main constructs of Social Representations Theory. Second, sector and Professional aspects were discussed, emphasizing representativeness of the occupation in Brazil, the social discredit of them, and the absence of management studies about these subjects. The research consisted in a qualitative approach with data collect of “professional trajectories” from waiters and waitress and collect of interviews from representants of expressive institutions in Belo Horizonte context. To analyze, we used Discourse Analysis methodology. It was possible to observe two semantical streams about this profession. First, the discourse about appreciation which tries to reframe positively the profession and advocate its knowledge and specificities. The second one was related with shifts and night work, pointing the harms of this way of work organization, emphasizing fatigue and limitation of personal relationship. Last, we pointed in this paper some reflections for Human Resource Management and work relations.
