摘要:Recently, a growing number of philosophers and linguists turned their attention to slurs, derogatory epithets that insult a person inasmuch as (s)he belongs to a target group. A slur such as ‘ faggot ’ makes reference to the group of homosexuals, and conveys (hatred and) derogation. We review the main theoretical approaches that have been proposed to account for this ‘ double meaning ’ of slurs, highlighting their relationship with philosophy of language and linguistics ’ main themes.
