摘要：Scopo del mio intervento è mettere a confronto due romanzi in lingua inglese di epoche differenti, i cui protagonisti sono costretti nell’infanzia ad affrontare e negoziare da soli gli spazi cittadini - David Copperfield di Charles Dickens e The Fortress of Solitude di Jonathan Lethem – e scoprire, analizzando il modo in cui l’uno a Londra e l’altro a Brooklyn imparano a conoscere e vivere la città, quanto del grande classico inglese è passato al contemporaneo americano (che non esita a definirsi suo seguace).
其他摘要：The aim of my essay is to compare two novels – an English classic, and a contemporary American work – whose main characters have to face and negotiate the metropolitan spaces alone since their childhood. By analyzing how David Copperfield in Charles Dickens’s eponymous novel and Dylan Ebdus in Jonathan Lethem’s The Fortress of Solitude learn to know the city and to leave in it, I will also show the Dickensian elements to be found in the novel of the American author, who defines himself “a follower of Dickens”.
