  • 摘要:In this study, diatomite obtained from the deposits in Ürgüp (Nevşehir) was ground, sifted through square-mesh sieves with apertures of 500 micrometres and bound by means of carton-pierre stucco to investigate diatomite-based lightweight constructional components. Mixtures were prepared with ground diatomite, carton-pierre stucco at ratios of 15, 25 and 35% in weight with respect to diatomite, and water. The mixtures were kneaded to plastic consistency, placed into pre-lubricated moulds of 40x40x160 mm in size. Cast samples were kept in moulds for 24 hours, then removed and then were taken into drying-oven. Three samples were produced from each mixture. The samples were dried in the oven at 100±2°C for 24 hours and fired for 24 hours at a temperature gradually raised to 1100°C. The fired products were progressively cooled down to room temperature and unit weight, compressive strength, bending strength and water absorption (by weight) tests were performed. Values of unit weight, compressive strength and bending strength were increased as the quantity of stucco increased while water absorption values were decreased.
