摘要：Os professores Romão Puiggari e Arnaldo de Oliveira Barreto publicaram, a partir de 1903, a Série de Leitura Puiggari-Barreto, obra destinada à escola primária, importante material que fora utilizado para a efetivação da função estabelecida para a instituição escolar: formar o cidadão republicano de modo que este fosse ordeiro, disciplinado, saudável, higiênico e patriota. Por meio de análise do conteúdo e de imagens, este texto apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa que investiga as representações acerca de um ideal de infância brasileira presentes na obra, bem como a centralidade conferida à escola como instituição responsável pela socialização das crianças, tendo como base o conceito de representação desenvolvido por Chartier (1990). 其他摘要：Teachers Romão Puiggari and Arnaldo de Oliveira Barreto published in 1903 the Puiggari-Barreto Reading Series, an important material destined to primary school that was used for the execution of the function established for the educational institution: to form the Republican citizen so that he would be orderly, disciplined, healthy, hygienic and patriot. By analyzing the content and images, this text presents the results of a survey that investigated the representations about an ideal of Brazilian children present in the work and the centrality given to the school as an institution responsible for the socialization of children, based on the concept of representation developed by Chartier (1990).
