摘要:Interrogations concerning gifted children, i.e. children displaying intellectual abilities higher than the norm, raise interest since several decades in the domain of child mental health, in the professionals of childhood, and more globally in the general public. Contrary to what has often been written, the international literature does not evidence a particular psychopathological vulnerability in children with high IQ. In gifted children with emotional and/or behavioural problems, considering developmental asynchrony could contribute distinguishing a subgroup of children exhibiting lack of emotional control and externalized emotional and behavioural problems. However, the whole literature leads to several questions about the relevance of categorizing groups of children on the basis of IQ outside of the deficit range. New epidemiological and clinical studies would be needed in order to better circumscribe the notion of intellectual giftedness itself, its potential psychopathological specificities, and the role of developmental asynchrony in the constitution of certain psychic suffering of childhood.
