摘要:Brazil has a great potential in the international market of meats. However, the exports of meats are subject to non-tariff restrictions in important markets for Brazil, like European Union, United States and Japan. In that sense, this study tried to quantify the effects of non-tariff barriers (BNTs) practiced against Brazilian exports of meats (bovine, pork and chicken) and to define the principal protection measures applied by eleven Brazilian trade partners in the period between 1990 and 2003. The methodology is based on Indexes of Frequency (IF), Covering of Trade (IC) and the Rate of Nominal Protection (TPN). The Brazilian authorities should pay attention to those subjects, trying to solve them bilaterally with those countries, in order to avoid that the imposition of non-tariff barriers harm the Brazilian exports of meats.
