  • 摘要:Flamenco dancing has one of its origins in theSpanish folk dances of the eighteenth and nineteenthcentury. Current choreographieshave great physiological and mechanical requirements. The aim, therefore, of this work is toshow the role that professionals of the physicalactivity and sports sciences can play in the fitnessand injury prevention of flamenco dancingprofessionals. Studies about heart rate in dancersshow an average per dance of 158.57 ±12.89 beats per minute in bailaoras and 154.93± 12.23 in baialores. This heart rate is comparableto that of basketball players during matches.Similarly, the time that a bailaor dedicatesto slow phases of zapateado (between 1 and 4zapateados per second), medium phases (between5 and 7 zapateados per second) and fastphases (8 or more zapateados per second) isproportional to the time basketball players runin a match at slow, medium or sprint speed. Asignificant amount of foot, back and knee injuriesare recorded as a result of these high demandsof effort. Therefore, the physical activityand sport sciences play a very important role inimproving the quality of these artists-athletes’ordinary and professional life.
