摘要:Cancer in pediatric patients is considered uncommon, representing arroun 2% of all cancers. Pediatric malignancies usually present diagnostic difficulties, especially in small biopsies and cytological specimens. The aim of this review is provide a guideline to address the cytological diagnosis in pediatric neoplasms, describe the epidemiological characteristics and cytological findings by using fine needle aspiration (FNA) as adiagnostic method in different malignancies that affect pediatric patients. Although the sensitivity, specificity and advantages offered by FNA in pediatric cancer diagnosis, the utility of it as a routine method is low. It is important to take into account the diversity and diagnostic criteria of the cytological and histological studies that exist around pediatric cancer in order to give a more accurate diagnosis.
