摘要:Libraries are continuing to be threatened by price hikes among foreign journals, and important new journals are being published every year. Thus, it is unavoidable that libraries must discontinue some journals to cope with budget limitations and provide for new journal subscriptions. To determine journals with low-usage rates, utility counting by a bar-code system is effective, but it has been regarded as an expensive and difficult system. Saitama Cancer Center Library introduced an inexpensive, easy-to-program bar-code system to study journal utilization in 1992. The results indicate good enough performance and utility that we report the details of our system.
