摘要：Weeding is as important to collection maintenance as acquisition. We call this weeding the “retired book system”, and we use it routinely to maintain the library's collection. There are two advantages to weeding: maintenance of valuable up-to-date books and economical use of storage space. Effective weeding in our routine work requires the performance of two tasks: 1) simultaneous weeding and shelving by replacing old resources with newly arrived resources, and 2) exclusive arrangement of shelves classified into the three resources: valuable, depreciated, and pending. In this report, we review the system, assessing the way the library weeds depreciated resources out of the collection.
