摘要:For setting up more effective signs and sign systems for users in the Library of the Jikei University School of Medicine, the authors began an experimental study with 24 medical students in order to detect any problems with the present sign systems in finding library materials without difficulty. Twelve questions concerning seeking specific materials were prepared and each question was assigned to two students (one a student in the 3rd year class and one for a 4th year class student). The time spent to find the material in question was measured and the user's walking pattern to seek it was recorded. The average time spent was 11 minutes and 4 seconds. Eight of the 24 students could not find the library material in question within 15 minutes. Finally, the list of problems with the present sign systems is presented.
