摘要:A case report on the technical problems of nearly 500 audio-visual materials, especially 35mm slides which were acquired in 1978 by Saitama Medical School Library which was established in 1972. Obviously a medium that is frequently used and yet has a vast number of storage and retrieval problems is the 35mm slides. One of the reasons is lacking in experience in organizing and utilizing this materials. Another is vast variety of boxes and/or carrousels, which makes it difficult to handle them. First, how audio-visuals should be acquired is taken into consideration. Next, in relation to the attribute of these materials, such as they could be said machine-mediated, the suggestions that the classification and the cataloging should be coordinated with those of book materials are made. For more effectiveness, at last, accessibility and shelving are discussed. Consequently, nearly free access and shelving in classified order are decided upon. It could not be said one medium, even if it is conventional one, is always superior to the other. Therefore, the librarian must learn to become more concerned with these materials.
