摘要：This(1) is the first of a series of papers that, taken together, will give an approach to modern Persian grammar on semantic principles. In this paper I attempt to examine semantic function of the inanimate-subject in the 'Subject+Object+Verb' transitive verb constructions, based on the framework of Fillmore's 'Case Grammar' theory(2). The argument, here, will explore the case priority in the inanimate-subject position and the possibility of a hidden agentive subject in some inanimate-subject in transitive verb constructions. In addition, this paper suggests that the variety of subjects in Persian shall be attributed to the restricted word order: Subject+Object+Verb. This restriction plays an important role in granting the subject various semantic roles.
