摘要：With recent advances of technology, mobile phones are generally used as convenient communication tools. One of desired functions for the mobile phone is a nonverbal communication system thatwould display facial expressions. This function is expected to deliver more intimate communication via the phone. To create the system, effective extraction of a face, hair and individual facial features is one of the most important issues. This paper proposes a Mahalanobis-distance-based method for analyzing and extracting those features from a facial image to draw a facial portrait. Our extraction experiment is performed using face images of 15 examinees. The method's accuracy of extracting facial features is quantitatively evaluated.
