摘要:The acute oral toxicity of 36 natural food additives used in Japan was examined in mice and rats. Death of mice occurred during the 14-day period of observation after treatment with five additives, palmarosa oil, rosewood oil, tea extract, quillaia extract and hinokitiol, at a single dose below 5.0g/kg. Quillia extract caused marked sewlling and hemorrhage of the glandular stomach and small intestine within 24hr after administration in mice. Clonic convulsion and tonic spasm were observed in mice treated with hinokitiol at 1hr after treatment. Although no death occurred during the period of observation after treatment of rats with four gardenia yellows at a dose of 5.0g/kg, macroscopic changes of livers were observed in these animals.
