摘要:Biodegradation and utilization of guar gum by microorganisms were investigated. Guar gum-utilizing bacteria were isolated from soil environment. The organism, No. 37 was able to grow in a synthetic medium containing guar gum as the sole of carbon. The relative viscosity of the guar gum in the synthetic medium was reduced from 7.8 to 1.0 after culturing for 24hrs., and the same time, sugar as its degradated products appeared and increased in the cultured synthetic medium with guar gum. Organisms No. 37 was identified as a strain of Pseudomonas sp. It grew over pH range of 5.0 to 9.0 being optimum at a pH of 7.0. The optimum temperature for growth was at 30°C with no growth occurring at 42°C. In the hypertonic environment with NaCl, growth occurred in a 0.6M NaCl concentration but not in 0.8M NaCl. This organism could also utilize galactose and mannose, and other polymers, i.e., soluble starch and xanthan gum for growth.
