摘要：The present study was undertaken to evaluate culture media for cholera toxin production by Vibrio cholerae El Tor and compare enterotoxigenicity among isolates from humans and the environment. A total of 20 strains of V. cholerae were cultured in syncase medium, CAYE medium, yeast extract peptone water and AKI medium. The culture supernatant was assayed for cholera toxin by reversed passive latex agglutination. The AKI medium was found best for the in vitro production of cholera toxin. The organisms were cultured in AKI medium at 37C for 4hr in a stationary test tube and then for 16hr in tube continuously shaken. Of 11 isolates from patients and the vicinity in which they lived, 10 produced cholera toxin, while 9 isolates from river water failed to do so.
