摘要:This case study is a concise report on the findings of the various focus groups, personal interviews and questionnaires that were conducted with women in group leader, supervisory and managerial positions at a leading motor vehicle manufacturer in the Eastern Cape Province. Twelve male managers were also invited to participate in the survey. The majority of the female respondents reported that prejudices and stereotypes regarding the promotion of women exist and that males generally progress more rapidly than females in the organisation. Statistical findings substantiated such propositions that gender plays a significant role in promotion strategies. Respondents made various proposals to improve the situation, which included implementing flexible working hours and creating awareness of gender discrimination among members of the top structures of the organisation.
