摘要:The adult education contractor with the most financial clout in Austria, the Public Employment Service Austria (AMS) is one of the most influential national service organizations that provide adult education. Not an educational institution itself, it indirectly employs an estimated 10,000 trainers through a great number of heterogeneous educational providers. Their working conditions will change significantly in 2015 as a result of a reorientation of AMS policy. This means that up to 2.500 trainers will lose their jobs. Compared to other fields of adult education, this field of work has always had its own peculiarities, but at present the AMS trainers are most directly threatened by a move in the direction of precarity and are responding with political action. This article is the product of the author‘s many years of practical experience and insider knowledge as well as numerous recent interviews with those active in the field (trainers, leaders of training institutions, members of the workers‘ council from a training institution active throughout Austria and the head of one province‘s AMS). It examines the background to and consequences of these developments.
