摘要:This paper aims to show and interpret the image that the historical chronicles of Ávila offered of the city and its people during the key moments of its settlement by Alfonso VI and Raymond of Burgundy in the late eleventh and early twelfth centuries. Specifically of interest is the focus on the settlement of colonists. Three texts are analysed: the Crónica de la Población de Ávila , written in the thirteenth century; Gonzalo de Ayora’s Epílogo, written in the second decade of the sixteenth century; and the later Segunda Leyenda . The texts make it possible to decipher the different discourses on the organization of pioneering society, the leadership of certain social groups and their geographic origins, as well as assessing the ideological orientation of the sources or the impact of the changes resulting from the incorporation of new narrative resources.
