摘要:The essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of Hertia cheirifolia leaves wereanalyzed by GC/MS analysis. Sixty two compounds were identified representing78.29% of the total oil. The main constituents were found to be monoethylhexylphthalate, (33.71%), valeranone, (6.90%), (-) Drimenin (6.71%) and benzene, tertbutyl(3.06%). The antibacterial activity of the leaf of Hertia cheirifolia wasevaluated by disc diffusion method and tested against Gram-positive and Gramnegativebacteria. Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853 was the most resistantbacteria. The tested oil had moderate activity on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923,Escherichia coli ATCC25922 and Klebsiella pneumonia. The essential oil was alsoscreened for a possible in vitro antioxidant activity by DPPH free radical-scavengingtest. The findings showed that percentage of reduction is 88.47 % at 1M.
