摘要：Saskatchewan has a history of restricting farmland ownership, often for political reasons andhaving uncertain economic impacts. We build a model that includes fundamental and nonfundamentalcomponents of land valuation as well as indicator variables to capture the effectsof ownership restrictions. Using Saskatchewan farmland value data from 1950–2014, we estimatethe effect of Saskatchewan’s farmland ownership restrictions on land values. The results suggestthat ownership restrictions on residents of other Canadian provinces caused a 4.45% decline inthe growth rate of land prices for years in which they were in effect.
