  • 摘要:The paper deals with the differences in the structure of four young birch stands, when two of them emerged under (P treatment) and the other two after (H treatment) dieback of allochthonous spruce stands. The experiment was conducted in the region of North Moravia on rich soils at an altitude of 300 m (VP treatment) and 400 m (HL treatment) a.s.l. The variability of tree density within the analysed 10 m2 inventory patches ranged from 0 to 41,000 trees per ha, and was accompanied by a species richness of 0–6 species per patch. The total tree density was higher on P treatments than on H treatments, as was that of the dominant birch. The birch composition within these treatments ranged from 85% to 96%, according to the basal area. The age variability of birch was higher within P treatments (3–15 years) compared to 6–13 years of H treatments. Birch grew faster within H treatment and at lower altitudes (VP treatment), where it reached height of 11 m at the age of 12 years, although the stability (slenderness ratio) and vitality (proportion of green crown) of birch were often reduced due to the lack of management.
