摘要：The objective of this study is to follow the development of academic thought by examining various studies that have been undertaken in the area of cashless transactions. With the recent implementation of demonetization in India by the Modi government, this field of study has acquired a renewed urgency . Models built and used by researchers focus on evaluating the costs and benefits that accrue to consumers if they switch to cashless modes of payments from traditional means of transacting with cash, and cash like instruments such as cheques, money orders , etc . Additionally, the contrast between cashless economy progress in developed and developing countries has also been highlighted.
