摘要：This text deals with the social consideration of the poor, the close relationship between poverty and mendicity and, finally, the gradual change of perception of the beggars, included the children, in the society and in Pontevedra’s press, in the second half of the 19th century. We analyse and evaluate as well the results of the ban of mendacity, ordered by some of Pontevedra’s local authorities, during the same period. Besides that, we compare these policies with the ones adopted in other cities. Moreover, we study the role played by the charity establishments regarding to the beggars confinement. We have studied, especially, Pontevedra’s press and several essayists works of the analysed period.
