摘要：Mycobacterium abscessus complex includes rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM) and emerging multidrug resistant pathogens that cause localized, disseminated infections and even nosocomial outbreaks from contamination of medical equipment. In the last decades, the incidence of these infections has significantly increased. The microbiological diagnosis, in addition to the classic laboratory analysis, also includes the molecular characterization and susceptibility tests, the latter being of vital importance because the different species of M. abscessus complex have variable susceptibility profiles to the antimicrobials of used in clinical practice. In this paper we discuss relevant aspects of the clinical and microbiological diagnosis of lung and skin and soft tissue infections produced by subspecies of M. abscessus complex.
