摘要：The advancement in information and communication technology (ICT) has outpaced our abilities to analyse, summarise, and extract knowledge from the data. Today, database technology has provided us with the basic tools for the efficient storage and lookup of large data sets, but the issue of how to help human beings to understand and analyse large bodies of data remains a difficult and unsolved problem. So, intelligent tools for automated data mining and knowledge discovery are needed to deal with enormous data. As library and information centres are considered the backbone of knowledge organisation, knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) is also getting attention of library and information scientists.
