摘要：This paper examines the scientific production in the area of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) published in Brazil and abroad. The study period goes from 1984 to 2006, using eight international and six Brazilian periodicals, containing a total of 16,640 articles, 366 of them on mergers and acquisitions, of which 101 deal with the themes of synergy or financial performance of acquisitions. Following a similar methodology for national and international articles, we grouped the articles chosen by periodical, authors and number of authors per article. The findings show that the number of published articles on the theme increased over the study period, although with some fluctuations. Also, Lubatkin, Luo and Sing were the researchers with the largest number of articles published. Finally, Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal and Academy of Management Journal, respectively, were the periodicals with the most articles published in the M&A area.↓O foco da presente pesquisa é a produção científica na área de fusões e aquisições (F&A) publicada no Brasil e no exterior. O período de análise compreendeu de 1984 até 2006, utilizando oito periódicos internacionais e seis nacionais, que resultou 16.640 artigos, 366 em fusões e aquisições, dos quais 101 referentes aos temas sinergia ou desempenho financeiro em aquisições. Seguindo metodologia semelhante de artigos nacionais e internacionais com os objetivos similares, os artigos selecionados foram agrupados por periódicos, autores e número de autores por artigos. Foi possível verificar o aumento das publicações sobre os temas analisados, mesmo que sofrendo flutuações ao longo do período em questão. O estudo também mostrou que Lubatkin, Luo e Sing são os pesquisadores com o maior número de publicações. Journal of International Busines Studies, Strategic Management Journal e Academy of Management Journal são respectivamente os periódicos que mais publicaram na área de F&A.
