摘要：Purpose: Health sector of an economy is a significant segment of prosperity and has essential economic benefits. The current study used to measure the productivity of 32 Tertiary Care Hospitals (TCH) in Punjab. Methodology: We applied the second stage DEA analysis and DEA-based Malmquist productivity change index that shows the technical efficiency change index and technical progressive change index. The variables used are total number of staffnumber of beds, number of inpatient discharge, number of major and minor operations and number of outdoor patients. Findings: This study concluded that on an average basis Tertiary care hospitals are not showing satisfactoryperformance as 28% of hospitals are found to be working on the efficiency frontier with associated efficiency score greater than 1. On average, TFP change has shown improvement having efficiency score >1. Overall, hospitals improved technological progress whereas, managerial efficiency contributing less to total factor productivity as a less pure efficiency contribution. Overall TFP during 2010-2013 is showing improvement with the major contribution of technological change. Recommendations: Health sector reforms should be initiated with its true spirit to provide access to high quality health services to the general masses.
