摘要：The use of virtualization technology and the issues encountered using such an environment in the support ofundergraduate information technology programming courses is presented in this paper. A Virtual DesktopInfrastructure (VDI) platform hosted by a university IS datacenter is a technology that can overcome many of theissues encountered when students configure their own computers with multiple software packages that are requiredfor advanced programming courses. Some of the problems that students encounter when installing an IntegratedDevelopment Environment and database system on their own computers range from installation problems tocompatibility issues when integrating software developed on different computers. Also, some students do not havetheir own computers. VDI environments have the software pre-installed and allow for teams of students to collaborateusing identical software at the same revision level. This paper presents finding on the issues encountered when usinga server-based VDI platform and compares the results to a previous study in the same courses using the same softwarewhere students installed their own software on their own computers.
