摘要:Foreign direct investment (FDI) plays a crucial role inenabling developing economies to embark on a path ofinclusive growth. This applies in par6cular if localsubsidiaries of mul6na6onal enterprises (MNEs) arecommibed to ‘principled embeddedness’ meaning thatthey are prepared to integrate parts of the local economyinto global value chains by enabling them to comply withthe required quality norms and standards. It also resultsin capacity development and technology transfer that islikely to benefit local entrepreneurs who contribute to thediversity of markets in the domes6c economy. Theempirically validated contribu6on of embeddedsubsidiaries of MNEs to inclusive growth challenge thenorma6ve view that FDI in developing economies wouldmerely pose a threat to exis6ng embedded economicsystems.
