摘要：El testamento transcrito y analizado a continuación pertenece al cacique principal don Gaspar Zanipatín de la encomienda de Juan Londoño Montenegro localizada en Mulaló, pueblo fundado cerca de las faldas del volcán Cotopaxi. El testamento fue escrito a principios del siglo XVII en San Francisco del Quito y es una muestra de la comunidad textual nativa formada dentro de la incipiente sociedad colonial de la Real Audiencia de Quito. Dentro de dicho texto es notable la manera en que el letramiento de origen europeo se incrustó en los filamentos más delgados de los pueblos nativos del territorio quiteño, sobre todo dentro de la necesidad de la élite indígena y sus descendientes de afirmar su buena cristiandad, su deseo de salvación y, lo más importante, asentar por escrito su esperanza de conservar y mantener su predominio y status social dentro de la jerarquía vernácula y española. Este escrito es solo un fragmento de los más de 130 testamentos otorgados por la élite indígena y sus descendientes entre los siglos XVII y XVIII en Quito y sus alrededores. De esta forma, el alma y el cuerpo del cacique don Gaspar han quedado para la posteridad como un registro excepcional dentro de la amplia escritura notarial pública de la Real Audiencia.
其他摘要：The testament transcribed and analyzed in this section belongs to cacique Don Gaspar Zanipatín from the Juan Londoño Montenegro encomienda in Mulaló, a town founded near the skirts of the Cotopaxi volcano. The testament was written in the early 17th century in San Francisco del Quito and is a small sample from the native textual community formed in the incipient colonial society of the Royal Audience of Quito. Throughout the testament, it’s worth noting the way in which European literacy became embedded in the thinner filaments of the territory’s native people, mainly amidst the need of the indigenous elite and their descendants to affirm their good Christianity and their desire for salvation and, more importantly, the need to establish in writing their hope of preserving and maintaining their predominance and social status in the native and Spanish hierarchies. The text is only a fragment of more than 130 testaments granted by the indigenous elite and their descendants between the 17th and 18th centuries in Quito and its surroundings. In this way, the soul and body of cacique Don Gaspar have remained for posterity in an exceptional record among the broad public notarial deed of the Royal Audience.
