摘要：El patrón de crecimiento y desarrollo de Canarias se ha visto significativamente alterado desde el inicio de la década de 1990, dado el evidente deterioro de sus coordenadas competitivas. La coincidencia de este punto de inflexión en la dinámica económica de las islas con su especial anclaje institucional en la Unión Europea (región RUP) y en España (REF de 1994) reclama una agenda de investigación que valore la eficiencia y eficacia del di - seño y usos del marco institucional canario, con especial énfasis en sus especificidades. Partiendo del concepto de competitividad regional en contextos de insularidad, este artículo reúne la escasa evidencia empírica disponible so- bre la relación entre las debilidades del modelo de crecimiento y las excepcionalidades institucionales de Canarias. Concluye que un diseño e implementación más inclusivos del marco institucional incrementaría su contribución al objetivo de la competitividad regional.
其他摘要：The growth and development path of the Canary Islands has significantly changed since the beginning of the 1990s, with an evident deterioration of its competitiveness. The coincidence in time of this turning point in economic performance and the specific institutional integration of the Canary Islands in the European Union (as an Outermost Region) and in Spain (Specific Economic and Fiscal Regime 1994) claims for a research agenda fo - cused on evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of the design and implementation of this specific institutional framework. Based on the concept of regional competitiveness the article sums up the scarce empirical evidence available about the relationship between the weaknesses of recent economic development and the specific insti - tutional framework of the Canary Islands. It concludes that a more inclusive design and implementation of the institutional specificities would improve their contribution to regional competitiveness.
