摘要：El gobierno mexicano entregó a una empresa estadounidense miles de hectáreas en el Golfo de Ulloa (Baja California Sur), para realizar minería marina. El objetivo es extraer durante 50 años, 350 millones de toneladas de arenas fosfáticas, a fin de ser utilizadas para fertilizantes. Pero el gobierno no tomó en cuenta que ese territorio es una Región Marina Prioritaria para la Conservación, además de que de este mar dependen para sobrevivir miles de pescadores, cooperativas pesqueras, prestadores de servicios turísticos, entre otros. Desde la visión gubernamental, el proyecto es importante debido a que el fosforo extraído será fundamental para el futuro de la humanidad, ya que de éste dependerá la alimentación. Esta podría ser la minería del siglo XXI . Una minería que busca el ahorro de diversos costos (que en el mar son posibles) y sobre todo “evitarse” la conflictividad en los territorios terrestres donde está el mineral. No obstante, como veremos, el mar también es un territorio en disputa.

The goal is to extract 350 million tons of phosphate sand for 50 years in order to be used for fertilizers. From the governmental perspective, the project is very important because the phosphorus extracted, will be fundamental for the future of humanity, since this will depend on the food.
