摘要：In recent years, the issue of family farming has been incorporated into the institutional agenda of most Latin American countries, which implies an opportunity to revive old debates and to increase knowledge about its current state. This question emerges in a complex scenario for Latin American agriculture, where the deepening of the rule of capital accelerates as well as its impacts on agrarian social structures in the countries of the region. These processes are expressed in a particular way in the Argentina Pampas region, as it is characterized by an older process in respect to the development and consolidation of agrarian capitalism. The main objective of this work is to characterize the family dairy production in the Pampas region and to identify the diversity of its persistence strategies, analyzing to what extent these strategies involve strengths or weaknesses in the survivor function, against a background of an advancing agribusiness model in the study region. The methodology combines qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews and key informant dairy producers, with the analysis of secondary sources of information. Main findingsconfirm the existence of a combination of external and internal factors that strongly affects the persistence of family dairy production in the study region. Beyond the great ability these agents have to develop strategies of persistence, which means that they will not easily retire from production.Without adequate support of specific policies, it is difficult to overcome the structural determinations imposed by capital under the current conditions of competition in the agro pampeano.
