摘要:This article explores how justice research is evaluated, measured, andcommunicated in the peer-reviewed social science journal industry. We examine issues of impact factor and journal prestige as measuredusing common citation indices. Engaging with literature on impactfactors and their proliferation across the social sciences, we compareimpact factor, subscription cost, and other indicators of journalprestige for 41 criminology, criminal justice, and socio-legal studiesjournals. Our findings suggest an upward trend in emphasis onimpact factor and a concurrent upward trend in cost of journalsubscriptions, which we claim illustrate trends in the corporatizationof journal production, publication, and management. We reflect onother consequences of publishing industry corporatization, includingthe rise of predatory journal publishers as well as the outsourcing ofjournal production. In conclusion, we contrast the corporate journalpublishing model with autonomous journal production (e.g., TheAnnual Review of Interdisciplinary Justice Research, The Journal ofPrisoners on Prisons), raising questions about what it means torepresent justice in academic journal publications.
