摘要：La enfermedad de Chagas es una enfermedad potencialmente letal, causada por el hemoparásito Trypanosoma cruzi, constituye la tercera enfermedad tropical más ampliamente distribuida a nivel mundial, y es una condición endémica que representa un problema de salud pública en Latinoamérica. El objetivo es realizar una revisión actual acerca de la enfermedad de Chagas, la genotoxicidad y mutagenicidad derivada del tratamiento y las diferentes alternativas terapéuticas en desarrollo. Para ello se efectuó una búsqueda en las bases de datos SciELO, PubMed, ScienceDirect y Embase con las palabras clave seleccionadas del DeCS y las combinaciones de estas; la búsqueda se limitó a los idiomas español e inglés y se incluyeron artículos publicados entre 2002-2016. Se concluye que la tripanosomiasis americana constituye una enfermedad tropical desatendida cuyo manejo farmacológico ha mostrado ser insuficiente en cuanto al riesgo-beneficio. En la actualidad son muchos los compuestos que muestran propiedades prometedoras como alternativa para el manejo de la enfermedad.
其他摘要：Chagas disease is a potentially fatal condition caused by the hemoparasite Trypanosoma cruzi. It is the third most widely distributed tropical disease worldwide, and an endemic condition constituting a public health problem in Latin America. The objective is to conduct an updated review about Chagas disease, the genotoxicity and mutagenicity derived from its treatment, and the various therapeutic alternatives under development. To achieve such an end, a search was carried out in the databases SciELO, PubMed, ScienceDirect and Embase, using key words selected from the DeCS and combinations thereof. The search was limited to Spanish and English and covered papers published from 2002 to 2016. It is concluded that American trypanosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease whose pharmacological management has proved insufficient as to the risk-benefit relationship. At present there are a large number of compounds with promising properties for alternative management of the disease.
