摘要：Some aspects of research in the field of mechanics in the National Technical University 獽harkiv Polytechnic Institute?are illustrated. Research works of professor A. V. Burlakov are analyzed and some information from the personal life of the scientist is pointed. It is disclosed what difficulties the young man met on his way to higher education. In particular the information about his courage in the Second World War is given. After graduation with honors from 獶ynamics and durability of machines?of Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute he was the graduate student under the guidance of professor A.P. Filippov. He brilliantly defends the candidate dissertation and later the doctorate. The list of disciplines which was taught by a young research worker is cited and direction of his scientific research is uncovered. It is shown, what measures were preceded to the decision of scientific problems and where their results were introduced.It is stated, that the research worker was one of the first authors of computer calculation methods of research of the phenomenon of creep of isotropic and anisotropic materials on durability of shells, numeral studies of problem of influence of creep on distributing of tensions round openings on the surface of shells. The scientist introduced the new approaches to the estimation of long capacity of constructions. He is the author of the first in the Soviet Union textbook from the theory of plasticity and creep. Research works founded by professor A. V. Burlakov today are being developed in NTU 獽hPI?
