  • 摘要:Transmission line towers are the large structures used for supporting the extra high voltage transmissionlines. It constitutes about 40% of the total cost of the transmission line and the investment in transmission facilities forextra high voltage networks has increased considerably. Thus minimizing the cost of transmission line structures is anobvious need. The design of transmission line structure is characterized by the special requirements to be met fromboth electrical and structural points of view. Thus the manoeuvrability in arriving at the optimum tower design isreduced by the electrical considerations. However there is a scope for the weight minimization and optimum geometryshaping of a transmission line tower.In this project, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is chosen foroptimizing the transmission line tower. Transmission tower optimization problems with respect to weight areanalyzedand optimized using STAAD pro and the results are compared with meta-heuristic algorithm to show theefficiency and robustness of the algorithm. The PSO algorithm gives a best solution which was better than thepreviously reported best optimum solution by STAAD pro.
