  • 摘要:This paper aims to proposed multi-level block truncation code (BTC) based image compression ofcontinuous tone still image to achieve low bit rate and high quality. The algorithm has been proposed by combining bitmap and quantization. The algorithms are proposed based on the assumption that the computing power is not thelimiting factor. The parameters considered for evaluating the performance of the proposed methods are compressionratio and subjective quality of the reconstructed images. The performance of proposed algorithm including color imagecompression, progressive image transmission is quite good. The effectiveness of the proposed schemes is establishedby comparing the performance with that of the existing methods.
